Guido Reni's *Adoration of the Shepherds* drawing radiates the tender devotion that made him one of the most celebrated religious artists of the Italian Baroque. Working from the Carracci academy in Bologna, Reni developed a style that balanced classical restraint with emotional warmth — his figures always graceful, his compositions suffused with a quiet, almost meditative light. This preparatory study, executed in pen and brown ink with wash and white gouache heightening over black chalk, reveals his process at its most intimate: the soft layering of tone, the delicate lift of light against shadow, all in service of a scene he returned to throughout his career. Reni produced multiple treatments of the Nativity and Adoration subjects across his lifetime, and his devotional works were among the most widely copied and engraved in seventeenth-century Europe — a testament to how deeply his vision of sacred tenderness resonated with audiences then and since. The hand-painted oil reproduction translates the luminous warmth of Reni's draftsmanship into paint, preserving the gentle modelling of light that defines his handling of devotional figures while giving the composition the physical presence and depth that only a hand-applied medium can provide.
