Memorial portraits, hand-painted from a photograph.
A tribute painted carefully, from whatever photograph you have, however imperfect. We'll talk it through with you first.

These are the commissions we take most carefully. The photograph is often the only one, it is often low resolution, and there is no possibility of taking another. Once you order, we look at what you have within hours, 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday (UK time), and tell you plainly whether it is enough to work from — and if it isn't, what else would help, or a full refund. If you would rather ask before ordering, email us the photograph first.
Nothing is automated on a memorial piece. One painter takes it from start to finish, and we do not ship until you have seen a photograph of the finished painting and said yes. If something in the face is not right, we keep working; that is not an extra, it is the job.
You choose the age they are painted at. Some families want the face from the last years; others want the photograph from their forties that everyone thinks of first. Clothes, glasses and backgrounds can all be changed — a hospital bed, a crowd behind them or a date stamp across the corner has no place in the painting — and a crease or a stain across the face is painted out rather than copied.
Many memorial portraits put the person back beside the family they left: a grandfather with the grandchild he never met, a mother at a wedding she didn't reach. That is painted from two or more photographs, however many years apart, and a family portrait with someone who has died in it explains how families usually decide the details.
A single portrait on a 16 × 20" canvas is £275$369€319CA$509A$519NZ$639CHF 299SEK 3,599NOK 3,449DKK 2,399PLN 1,379, delivery included, and each extra person is from £35$49€39CA$69A$69NZ$79CHF 39SEK 449NOK 449DKK 299PLN 179. It takes three to four weeks to paint, plus delivery, so a painting will not be ready for a funeral next week; for the service a framed print is the realistic answer, and a portrait for a funeral sets out what can be done in a week.
If the photograph isn't good
- Send it anyway. We have painted from passport photos, newspaper clippings and a single blurred frame.
- A second photograph of the same person from any age helps the painter understand the face.
- Tell us anything that matters — a pair of glasses they always wore, a scarf, the way they held their head.
The plain facts
- Painted by hand in real oil on canvas by professional portrait artists, with fine brushes in a smooth realist technique. Not printed, not a canvas transfer, not generated.
- Six canvas sizes, from 12 × 16″ at £220$299€259CA$409A$409NZ$509CHF 239SEK 2,849NOK 2,749DKK 1,899PLN 1,109 to 36 × 48″ at £549$739€639CA$1,029A$1,029NZ$1,279CHF 599SEK 7,149NOK 6,899DKK 4,799PLN 2,759. One person or pet is included in every price; each extra is from £35$49€39CA$69A$69NZ$79CHF 39SEK 449NOK 449DKK 299PLN 179, depending on the canvas.
- About three to four weeks to paint, plus delivery. Delivered worldwide, and delivery is included in the price; any import duty charged by the destination country is the buyer's.
- Once you order, a person checks your photograph within hours, 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday (UK time). If it won't make a good painting, you can send another or have a full refund.
- You get a photograph of your actual canvas before it ships, and nothing ships until you've approved it. If something is wrong, it goes back to the painter.
- Arrives unframed, rolled in a tube, ready for any framer near you to stretch and frame.

Starting from an old photo?
If it's torn, creased or faded, we can restore it first, free, and you'll see the preview before deciding anything. The painting can then be made from the restored version.

Questions, answered.
How much is a memorial portrait?
From £220$299€259CA$409A$409NZ$509CHF 239SEK 2,849NOK 2,749DKK 1,899PLN 1,109 on a 12 × 16″ canvas, with worldwide delivery included. A single head-and-shoulders portrait on a 16 × 20" canvas is £275$369€319CA$509A$519NZ$639CHF 299SEK 3,599NOK 3,449DKK 2,399PLN 1,379, and each extra person is from £35$49€39CA$69A$69NZ$79CHF 39SEK 449NOK 449DKK 299PLN 179.
Can you paint from an old, blurry or damaged photo?
Usually, yes. Once you order, a person looks at your photograph within hours, 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday (UK time), and tells you plainly whether it is enough. If it isn't, you can send another or have a full refund. Painting from a blurry or old photo explains what a painter can and can't recover.
Can you add someone who has died into a family portrait?
Yes, and it is one of the commonest things we are asked. The painter works from each photograph, however many years apart they were taken, and composes one picture. The family portrait page has sizes for larger groups.
Will it be ready in time for a funeral?
Not usually. Painting takes three to four weeks plus delivery. For the service itself a framed print of the photograph is the realistic choice, and the painting follows for a date that matters later — an anniversary, a birthday, the first Christmas.
Can I see it before it is sent?
Yes. You get a photograph of the finished canvas, and nothing ships until you have approved it. If something in the face is not right, it goes back to the painter.
Can you paint a pet that has died?
Yes. A memorial portrait of a dog, cat or horse is the same job at the same prices; the pet portrait page has what makes a good pet photo.
