Couple portraits are the commission people buy for no reason at all, which is probably why they are the ones that land best. An engagement, a first flat, a move abroad, a year that was hard and is now over — the occasion matters less than the photograph, and the photograph is usually one somebody took on a phone without thinking about it.

There doesn't have to be a photograph of the two of you together. Couples who met later in life, who spent years apart, or who only ever took pictures of each other send two photographs, and the painter puts them side by side under one light. Clothes and backgrounds can be changed on the way — a hospital corridor, a car park or a stranger's elbow has no business in a painting.
Allow three to four weeks to paint, plus delivery, and say at the start if there is a date behind it: an engagement, a first anniversary, a birthday. Yes. Send one clear photograph of each of you, ideally in similar light, and say how you want to stand. The painter composes them into one picture.

How far ahead should I order for an engagement or anniversary?
Three to four weeks to paint, plus delivery, so six clear weeks before the date is safe. It arrives rolled in a tube, so leave time for framing too.
Can you change what we're wearing or the background?
Yes. Backgrounds are repainted, and clothing can be changed or tidied. Say what you want when you order and we show you the plan before painting starts.
