Horse and animal portraits, painted in oil.
Not everything with a face is a dog. Horses, ponies, rabbits, parrots, reptiles, livestock with names — we have painted all of them.

Horses are the ones people worry about, and rightly — the head is long, the proportions are unforgiving, and a portrait that is slightly off reads as wrong immediately even to someone who knows nothing about horses. We paint them from a three-quarter view wherever possible, and we will ask for a second photograph from a different angle so the painter can build the head properly rather than guess at it.
Rosettes, tack, yard colours, a particular field, the show ring — say what matters and it goes in. If the only decent photograph you have is from a competition day with a hundred people in the background, that is fine; the background is the easiest thing in the picture to replace.
A horse's head on a 16 × 20" canvas is £275$369€319CA$509A$519NZ$639CHF 299SEK 3,599NOK 3,449DKK 2,399PLN 1,379, delivery included. A whole horse, or a horse with its rider, wants more room — 20 × 24″ or larger — and a rider or a second animal is from £35$49€39CA$69A$69NZ$79CHF 39SEK 449NOK 449DKK 299PLN 179. Many of the horses we paint are memorials; horse memorial gifts covers the other ways people remember one.
What to send us
- Two photographs if you can: one head-on or three-quarter, one from the side.
- Overcast daylight beats bright sun — hard shadows hide the shape of the head.
- Tell us the markings that matter. A blaze or a sock in the wrong place is the one thing owners always spot.
The plain facts
- Painted by hand in real oil on canvas by professional portrait artists, with fine brushes in a smooth realist technique. Not printed, not a canvas transfer, not generated.
- Six canvas sizes, from 12 × 16″ at £220$299€259CA$409A$409NZ$509CHF 239SEK 2,849NOK 2,749DKK 1,899PLN 1,109 to 36 × 48″ at £549$739€639CA$1,029A$1,029NZ$1,279CHF 599SEK 7,149NOK 6,899DKK 4,799PLN 2,759. One person or pet is included in every price; each extra is from £35$49€39CA$69A$69NZ$79CHF 39SEK 449NOK 449DKK 299PLN 179, depending on the canvas.
- About three to four weeks to paint, plus delivery. Delivered worldwide, and delivery is included in the price; any import duty charged by the destination country is the buyer's.
- Once you order, a person checks your photograph within hours, 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday (UK time). If it won't make a good painting, you can send another or have a full refund.
- You get a photograph of your actual canvas before it ships, and nothing ships until you've approved it. If something is wrong, it goes back to the painter.
- Arrives unframed, rolled in a tube, ready for any framer near you to stretch and frame.

Starting from an old photo?
If it's torn, creased or faded, we can restore it first, free, and you'll see the preview before deciding anything. The painting can then be made from the restored version.

Questions, answered.
How much is a horse portrait?
From £220$299€259CA$409A$409NZ$509CHF 239SEK 2,849NOK 2,749DKK 1,899PLN 1,109 on a 12 × 16″ canvas, with worldwide delivery included. A head study fits the smaller sizes; a whole horse or a horse and rider reads better from 20 × 24″ up. A rider or a second animal is from £35$49€39CA$69A$69NZ$79CHF 39SEK 449NOK 449DKK 299PLN 179.
Can you paint my horse from a competition photo?
Yes. Crowds, fences and a busy arena behind the horse are all replaceable, and a plain ground or their own field can go in instead. What matters is that the head is sharp.
Do you need more than one photograph?
One good photograph is enough to start. A second from another angle helps the painter build the head properly, and a close-up of any markings stops them being guessed.
What other animals do you paint?
Ponies, rabbits, parrots, reptiles and farm animals, all at the same prices. Dogs and cats have their own pet portrait page.
