Blue and Green Shell with Dragon's Head is a study in precise observation and decorative fantasy, its iridescent hues rendered with a delicacy that feels almost alive on the page. Giuseppe Grisoni was a Brussels-born artist who trained in Florence and later worked in England, building a reputation across Europe for his technical versatility. Working in gouache over black chalk on ivory laid paper, he combined the draughtsman's instinct for structure with a painter's sensitivity to colour and light. This medium allowed him to achieve luminous, layered tones — the kind of translucent depth that oil painters labour for, here accomplished on paper with quiet precision. The pairing of a naturalistic shell form with the fantastical dragon's head motif reflects the era's easy fusion of scientific curiosity and decorative imagination.
