Turchi's *Venus and Cupid* is a luminous, intimate mythological scene that showcases the Veronese master's gift for rendering soft flesh and warm candlelit atmosphere with equal delicacy. Alessandro Turchi, known in his lifetime as "l'Orbetto," trained in Verona before settling in Rome, where he became celebrated for small-scale mythological works with a sensuous, almost meditative quality. His technique draws on the Venetian tradition of rich colour and glazed oil surfaces, but tempers it with a Roman clarity of form. In this composition, the tender dynamic between Venus and Cupid is rendered with a restraint that makes it feel personal rather than theatrical. Turchi was particularly admired by collectors during his lifetime for cabinet-sized works like this one, which circulated widely among Roman patrons who prized intimate mythological subjects for private display.
