Landscape with Sheep, Picardy radiates the quiet stillness of rural northern France — open skies, soft light, and a flock at rest in a meadow that feels genuinely unhurried. Harry Thompson was among the British painters drawn to the pastoral landscapes of Picardy in the latter half of the nineteenth century, a region that attracted artists for its expansive, gently rolling countryside and luminous northern light.
