This richly layered panel painting captures one of the Old Testament's most storied diplomatic encounters — Solomon's court ablaze with courtiers, gifts, and ceremonial grandeur as the Queen of Sheba arrives to test his legendary wisdom. The Master of the Antwerp Adoration Group was an anonymous Flemish painter active in the early sixteenth century, identified and named by art historians through a group of stylistically related works rather than any surviving signature or document. Working in the tradition of early Netherlandish panel painting, he brought meticulous attention to fabric, architecture, and crowd arrangement — qualities evident here in the procession of figures rendered with careful individuality. The transfer from panel to canvas, unusual for the period, adds a layer of history to the object itself. The painting entered the Art Institute of Chicago's collection as part of its broader holdings of Northern Renaissance works, where it remains a notable example of Antwerp's thriving export trade in devotional and narrative painting during the early 1500s. Our hand-painted oil reproduction is executed on canvas by a skilled studio artist working directly from high-resolution source material, preserving the warm ochres, deep blues, and architectural depth that define the original — giving you an artwork of genuine substance rather than a print.
