Lucas Cranach the Elder's *Adam* is a striking example of Northern Renaissance portraiture of the human form, presenting the biblical first man with an elegance that blends idealism with intimate, almost tender realism. Cranach was court painter to the Electors of Saxony and a close friend of Martin Luther, and his work sits at a fascinating crossroads between medieval devotion and Reformation-era humanism. His figures are characteristically elongated and smooth-skinned, rendered with a precision rooted in the German graphic tradition — fine, controlled brushwork building texture and volume with quiet confidence. *Adam* was painted as a companion to a matching *Eve*, the pair intended as a meditation on sin, beauty, and human vulnerability rather than mere religious illustration. The work is held in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago, one of a number of Cranach Adam-and-Eve panels that survive across major institutions, reflecting how popular this subject was throughout his long and prolific career. Our hand-painted oil reproduction is executed on canvas by a skilled studio painter working directly from high-resolution reference, preserving Cranach's luminous flesh tones, his restrained use of shadow, and the quiet authority that makes the original so compelling five centuries on.
