El Zocodover captures the ancient central plaza of Toledo bathed in the warm, hazy light that drew so many painters to Spain in the early twentieth century. Childe Hassam was among the foremost American Impressionists of his generation, shaped by years studying in Paris and a deep admiration for the broken-brushwork luminosity of the French masters.
